# Website Connection Issues

| If you have deployed the Squid snippet, but you do not see your website connecting, please try the following troubleshooting steps.

### 1. Check for errors

###### a. Go to your website's home page.
###### b. Open up your browsers developers tools. Here’s a list of the shortcut keys to open developer tools (DevTools) in major browsers on both Windows and macOS:

| Google Chrome
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I` or `F12`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`

| Mozilla Firefox
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I` or `F12`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I` or `Cmd + Shift + I`

| Microsoft Edge
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I` or `F12`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`

| Apple Safari
| **Windows**: Safari is not available on Windows.
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`
| Note: In Safari, you need to enable the "Develop" menu first by going to `Safari` > `Settings` (or `Preferences`) > `Advanced` and checking "Show Develop menu in menu bar".

| Opera
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`

| Brave Browser
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I` or `F12`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`

| Internet Explorer
| **Windows**: `F12`
| **Mac**: Internet Explorer is not available on macOS.

| Vivaldi
| **Windows**: `Ctrl + Shift + I`
| **Mac**: `Cmd + Option + I`

|| In most browsers, pressing `Ctrl + Shift + J` (Windows) or `Cmd + Option + J` (Mac) opens the Console tab directly within DevTools.
|| In Internet Explorer and Edge, `F12` opens the developer tools and also acts as a toggle to close them.
||
These shortcuts are consistent across most versions of these browsers, but it's always a good idea to check the browser’s official documentation or settings if the shortcut does not work as expected.

###### c. Reload/refresh your webpage by clicking the refresh icon. It loos like this on most browsers.

###### d. in the dev tools window, you should see either our script load successfully, A successful connection will look like:

If you do not see a successful message (Squid Online) and you have indeed added our script correctly, continue to Step 2.

### 2. Troubleshoot Errors

###### a) Do you have the correct snippet deployed?

Error:

Double check to make sure the snippet you deployed matches the snippet for the website you created in Squid. You can check the snippet by:

* Going to settings - hover over the "..." on the upper right panel on your Squid dashboard. Red box shown on the picture below.

* Scroll down to 'Deploy our snippet' text box. Check to make sure the script matches - specifically, the last set of alphanumeric characters highlighted in below picture. NOTE: your digits will not be the same.

You will see an "invalid origin". Add the origin you see listed to the Squid allowed origins URL list.

* Go to your websites settings in Squid.
* Add the discovered URL from the error message in the empty box.. Click 'Save website'.

###### c) Do you have a CSP issue?

```
app.asksquid.ai/:1 Refused to frame 'https://app.asksquid.ai/' because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "default-src 'self'". Note that 'frame-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback.
```

This Content Security Policy (CSP) error occurs because your website's CSP is blocking the iframe from `app.asksquid.ai`. The current policy only allows frames from the same origin (`'self'`). Here's how to fix it:

###### Solution: Update Your Content Security Policy
You need to add `https://app.asksquid.ai` to your CSP's `frame-src` directive. Here are the ways to do this:

###### Option 1: Add a frame-src directive (Recommended)
If you're setting CSP via HTTP header:
```
Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'; frame-src 'self' https://app.asksquid.ai;
```

If you're using a meta tag in HTML:
```
<meta http-equiv="Content-Security-Policy"
      content="default-src 'self'; frame-src 'self' https://app.asksquid.ai;">
```

###### Option 2: If you need to support older browsers, also add child-src
```
Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'; frame-src 'self' https://app.asksquid.ai; child-src 'self' https://app.asksquid.ai;
```

###### Where to Make These Changes
Depending on your setup, you can modify the CSP in:

1. **Server configuration** (nginx, Apache, etc.)
    Nginx: In your server block configuration
    Apache: In `.htaccess` or server config
2. **Application code**
    Node.js/Express: Using helmet middleware or setting headers manually
    PHP: Using `header()` function
    Other frameworks: Through their security middleware
3. **CDN or hosting platform settings**
    Cloudflare, Netlify, Vercel, etc. often have CSP configuration options
##
After making these changes, clear your browser cache and reload the page. The iframe from `app.asksquid.ai` should now load successfully.

### 3. Test

Reload your website and see if the script connects. If you still have issues connecting, please reach out via the chatbot or email at help@asksquid.ai.
