Capping Website Credits

🚦 Traffic Control

is a feature designed for accounts managing multiple websites within Squid. While it’s especially powerful for agencies, anyone with more than one website can use it.

πŸ’‘ Why Use Traffic Control?

When you add websites under your Squid account:

  • All sites share the same pool of credits (Event Traffic and VisitorID credits).
  • By default, each website has unlimited access to this pool.

However, if:

  • One website consumes significantly more credits than others, it can monopolize resources.
  • You want to resell Squid services to clients with specific caps (e.g. offering a client 100 Visitor IDs only).

Traffic Control allows you to:

βœ… Cap the amount of credits each site can use
βœ… Distribute credits fairly across websites
βœ… Enable tiered pricing for agency clients

βš™οΈ How to Set Up Traffic Control

πŸ”’ Note: Traffic Control is only available for Account Owners.

βœ… Pre-req: You’ve signed up for a Squid account here.

πŸ”’ Step 1 – Access Traffic Control

  1. Log in to your Squid account as an Account Owner.
  2. On the top right of your dashboard, click the Traffic Control button

πŸ”’ Step 2 – Configure Credit Caps

  1. You will see a list of your websites.
  2. For each website, you can set:
  • Traffic Event credits (e.g. 10,000 events)
  • VisitorID credits (e.g. 100 IDs)

  1. If you leave a field blank, the website will have unlimited access to that credit type.

πŸ”’ Step 3 – Save Settings

  1. After setting the desired caps, click Save.
  2. You will see a credit usage meter for each website:
  • 🟑 Turns yellow as a warning when approaching the cap.
  • πŸ”΄ Turns red when credits are critically low or have run out.

You also can see the credit usage meters back on the overview screen that lists your websites.

⚠️ Important Considerations

VisitorID credits rely on Traffic credits.

βž” If a website runs out of Traffic Event credits, it will stop visitor identifications, even if VisitorID credits remain.
βž” Always ensure adequate Traffic credits are available for each website to function properly.

🎯 Benefits of Traffic Control

βœ… Fair distribution of credits across sites
βœ… Prevents a single site from monopolizing your account resources
βœ… Supports agency resale and client-specific plans
βœ… Provides full visibility and control of credit usage
