What is Ask Squid?

Ask Squid is Squid's AI engine. Ask Squid represents a paradigm shift in web analytics, moving away from the intricate and often overwhelming traditional methods to a more user-friendly, conversational approach. It's about making data analysis accessible to everyone, turning complex data into simple, actionable insights with the power of AI. This approach allows users to focus on what truly matters – understanding their data and applying these insights to their business, without getting lost in the technicalities of data analysis.

Traditional Web Analytics Approach:

Complexity: Traditional analytics methods can feel like a treasure hunt. They are time-intensive, often complicated, and involve a lot of custom reporting, event coding, and goal setting.

Technical Expertise Required: Even for the most tech-savvy data analysts, navigating through this labyrinth of data analysis can be a tedious task.

Detailed Setup: Setting up and understanding custom dashboards, labeling events, and generating reports require a deep dive into the technicalities of web analytics tools.

The Squid AI Experience:

Simplicity and Accessibility: Switching to Squid AI is like having a friendly chat over coffee. It's an approach that anyone can engage with, regardless of technical expertise.

Intuitive Interaction: Instead of spending hours on analytics setup, you can simply ask Squid your questions. The tool automatically scours your data, delivers answers, and builds charts instantly.

Ask Anything: Whether you're curious about the impact of your new product launch on website traffic, want to see how visitor demographics have shifted, or need a quick snapshot of your most popular pages, Squid AI makes getting answers as easy as asking a question.

Focus on User-Friendly Insights: Squid AI is designed to strip away the complexity of traditional data analysis. It eliminates the need to wrestle with custom dashboards and the technical hurdles often associated with traditional tools like GA4.

Using Ask Squid

Ask Squid - Squid's AI - is found in two areas of the product

AI Insights

The first area is on the top of the UI when inside a website:

AI-Assisted Charts

The second is within a chart:

Let's cover how to use each of these features.

AI-Insights

Ask Squid AI will become active once there is sufficient event data from your website to generate meaningful answers. If the feature is currently inactive, please give Squid some time to accumulate more event data. The activation time varies and is contingent on your website's visitor traffic levels. Check back after a period to see if this feature is ready for use.

Step 1: Type Your Question
Click into the text box and type in a clear question about your website analytics. For example, you might ask, "How many users did my website have in the last 48 hours?"

Step 2: Submit Your Question
Press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard to submit your question to Squid.

Step 3: Data Gathering
Squid AI will automatically collect all the relevant data from your analytics to provide an accurate answer.

Step 4: AI Processing
The gathered data is sent to the AI for processing. The AI analyzes the information to generate a response to your query.

Step 5: Review the Answer
Once the AI has processed your question, the answer will be streamed back and displayed in the 'Ask Squid: Question History' dialog panel on your dashboard (speech bubble in the top right icon menu bar on the Squid interface).

If you want to use this question in future requests, you can pin the question by clicking on the purple pin.

The pin will turn solid purple and your question will now be stored in the 'My Ask Squid Shortcuts' panel (lightbulb icon on top right of the Squid interface):

Step 6: Access History
In the 'Ask Squid: Question History' panel, you can view the history of all the questions you've asked previously, along with the AI's responses for each (speech bubble in the top right icon menu bar on the Squid interface).

Functions:

Delete a question: Click the red trash can

Provide feedback: Click thumbs up/down.

Use again: Click the pin to pin to your Ai shortcuts panel.

AI engines can and will make mistakes. No AI system is 100% accurate. Consider checking important information to ensure the answer makes sense.

AI-Assisted Charts

Step 1: Identify AI-Assisted Charts
Look for charts within your Squid dashboard that have the AI-Assisted feature. These will typically be marked with an 'Ask' button at the bottom.

Step 2: Click the 'Ask' Button
When you find a chart you want to analyze, click the purple 'Ask' button located below the chart. This action will initiate the AI analysis process.

Step 3: AI Analysis
Upon clicking the button, Squid will send the data from the selected chart to the AI for a deeper analytical review.

Step 4: Receive Insights
After a brief moment, the AI will return with insights. These insights will detail what aspects of the data are performing well, which areas may require attention, and offer suggestions for improvement.

Conversation Tone Setting

Squid allows you to change the response tone on the answers that are returned by our AI. To change the tone of the AI response:

1) Open your website settings by clicking the purple settings button located within your website.

2) Choose the response tone. This setting is website specific.
