VisitorID Page Inclusion/Exclusion Lists

Page Inclusion & Exclusion Lists

The Page Inclusion List and Page Exclusion List for VisitorID give you control over where visitor identification is triggered on your website.

By default, Squid identifies visitors on all pages. However, there may be strategic reasons to only identify on specific pages or to exclude certain pages from identification.

You can find these settings in your Squid dashboard:

  1. Navigate to your home dashboard for your website.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the VisitorID section.

How It Works

You can enable either the Inclusion List or the Exclusion List – not both at the same time.

✅ Page Inclusion List

When enabled, Squid will only identify visitors who land on the pages you specify in your inclusion list.

For example, you only want to identify visitors on high-intent pages such as your pricing or product pages. You would enable the inclusion list and add URLs for these specific pages.

If a visitor lands on any other page not included in your list, they will not be identified (but their analytics and activity are still tracked).

❌ Page Exclusion List

When enabled, Squid will identify visitors on all pages except those you specify in your exclusion list.

For example, you publish blogs and do not want to consume VisitorID credits identifying visitors on blog pages.

Visitors landing on these excluded pages will not be identified unless they visit another page that is not excluded.

IMPORTANT

If the page inclusion list or exclusion list is activated and there are no pages listed, this will effectively turn off visitor identification entirely. Always ensure that if either list is turned on, it contains URLs.

If you are not using them, keep both settings OFF to continue identifying visitors on all pages.

Best Practices

  • Use Inclusion when you only have a few pages where you want identification to happen.
  • Use Exclusion when you want identification on most of your site, with only a few pages excluded.

Additional Note

Analytics and heatmaps always remain active even if VisitorID is not identifying someone on an excluded or non-included page. These lists only affect visitor identification. All other tracking continues as normal.
